Is the 16" measured at the top of the box. Ie across the top area or is it the bottom where the base box is. I have exactly 16" to have something fit into my fake fireplace.

Does this have a glass cover?

It is free standing, with no glass cover as the opti-myst misting technology would not work well with glass covering it, it would be misting onto the glass creating water droplets.
