We would like to convert our brick wood burning fireplace to electric. Can this unit be inserted into that space? And, how do we hard wire it? Is that possible?

Yes, this electric fireplace insert is designed for exactly that purpose - to replace traditional wood/gas burning fireplaces.
You can hard wire the unit with the help of an electrician and or have them install a standard household electrical outlet behind the electric fireplace insert (back wall of existing fireplace opening).
