This free-standing, extra-long indoor fireplace has a mantel with a real wood finish and features six flame colors, five flame brightness levels, adjustable thermostat, timer function and automatic safety shut-off. The electric fireplace insert provides supplemental heat for rooms up to 1,000 sq ft or the heater can be turned off so you can enjoy the comforting ambiance of a glowing fireplace year-round. Is this fireplace white or gray?

It is white with some grey tones in it so I would say it is an off white/greyish white color.

How difficult is this item to build?

The assembly process is very simple and it should take one adult around an hour or two to set up the fireplace mantel. The electric fireplace insert itself ships fully assembled and you would just need to slide it into the fireplace mantel cabinet once you are done assembling it.
