Can this be converted to a gel fireplace?

No, this model cannot be converted to a gel fireplace and will only operate as an electric fireplace - I strongly do not recommend gel fireplaces since you have to constantly buy fuel which is an ongoing cost that gets expensive over time.
Our electric fireplaces provide 3-D flame effects which look identical to real fire and they also offer supplemental heat with a thermostat so that you can conveniently set the heat to whatever temperature you want.
Also electric fireplaces feature a remote control for ease of operation whereas you have to go up to the gel fireplace to refill the fuel, light it, and snuff it every time.

Yes, this model can feature the fire effects without the heater being on, they are both features that can be operated simultaneously and or independently which allows for your year round ambiance and comfort.
The insert is 40" (diagonal) and is a part of the grand series which offers a very wide viewing area for the electric fireplace insert.
