Quartz infrared heaters are highly efficient, ecofriendly, and have a longer lifespan than other supplemental heat sources. Infrared light is a specific wavelength that is associated with the red end of the visible spectrum. We won’t drag you through another science lesson but there are some fundamentals that you should know in order to understand how quartz infrared heaters work.
How Infrared Works
Electromagnetic radiation is used to transfer energy from one object to another. The wave length of these infrared rays is anywhere from 780nm to 1mm. Very miniscule if you don’t already get the picture. Heat is produced when energy (electricity) is transferred through a coiled tungsten wire. Emitting a range of low, medium, and high energy waves, infrared light is used in a variety of applications.
Originally discovered in the 1800’s by a British Astronomer by the name of Sir William Herschel, it wasn’t until the 1940’s that infrared heat became popular. While there are 8 variations of infrared heat, this article will focus on the basics of infrared quartz heaters in particular.
